Opsætning
The SubZero Passive DI Box is designed for straightforward integration into your audio setup. Follow these steps for typical connections:
Connecting Your Instrument/Source
Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar, bass, keyboard) or line-level audio source to the INPUT jack on the side of the DI box using a standard 1/4" TS instrument cable.

Connecting to a Mixer/Interface
Tilslut OUTPUT (BALANCERET) XLR jack on the front of the DI box to an XLR input on your mixing console, audio interface, or PA system using a balanced XLR cable. This converts your instrument's high-impedance, unbalanced signal into a low-impedance, balanced signal, making it suitable for long cable runs without signal degradation or noise.

Using the THRU Output
De GENNEM 1/4" jack provides a direct, unprocessed pass-through of the input signal. This is useful for connecting your instrument to an amplifier or monitor on stage while simultaneously sending the DI signal to the front-of-house mixer.
PAD Switch
De PAD switch allows you to attenuate the input signal by -20dB or -40dB. This is crucial when connecting high-output sources (e.g., active bass guitars, keyboards, or line outputs from audio equipment) to prevent signal clipping and distortion at the DI box input or the connected mixer/interface. Use the 0dB setting for standard instrument levels.
GROUND Switch
De JORD switch (also known as Ground Lift) helps eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops. If you experience unwanted noise, try flipping this switch. In most cases, the "lifted" position (often indicated by a line or 'I' for lifted, or 'O' for connected) will break the ground loop and reduce noise. Experiment with both positions to find the quietest setting for your specific setup.

Drift
Once connected, operating the SubZero Passive DI Box is straightforward. The unit is passive and requires no power, so it's always ready to go.
Signal Level Management (PAD Switch)
- 0dB: Use this setting for most standard instrument-level signals, such as passive guitars or basses, or when the source signal is not excessively loud.
- -20dB: Engage this pad for hotter signals, like active pickups, keyboards, or line-level outputs from preamps or audio interfaces. This prevents the input of your mixer/interface from being overloaded.
- -40dB: This is the maximum attenuation and should be used for very high-output sources, such as speaker-level signals (when used with a speaker simulator or attenuator) or extremely hot line-level signals.
Always start with the 0dB setting and switch to a higher attenuation (-20dB or -40dB) if you notice distortion or clipping at your mixer's input.
Noise Reduction (GROUND Switch)
If you hear a persistent hum or buzz in your audio signal, it is likely due to a ground loop. The GROUND switch is designed to break this loop:
- Connected (often 'I' or 'ON'): In this position, the ground connection between the input and output is maintained. This is the default setting.
- Lifted (often 'O' or 'OFF'): In this position, the ground connection is broken. If the hum disappears or significantly reduces, leave the switch in this position. If the hum persists or worsens, return it to the connected position.
It is generally recommended to use the ground lift only when necessary to resolve noise issues, as a continuous ground path can sometimes be beneficial for signal integrity.
Opretholdelse
The SubZero Passive DI Box is built with a robust, all-metal chassis designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.
- Rensning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or solvents, as these may damage the finish or internal components.
- Opbevaring: When not in use, store the DI box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Håndtering: While durable, avoid dropping the unit or subjecting it to severe impacts, which could damage internal circuitry or connectors.
Fejlfinding
If you encounter issues with your SubZero Passive DI Box, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Ingen lyd:
- Ensure all cables (input, output, and THRU if used) are securely connected.
- Check the volume levels on your instrument, amplifier, and mixer/interface.
- Verify that the correct input channel is selected on your mixer/interface.
- Test kablerne individuelt for at sikre, at de ikke er defekte.
- If using the PAD switch, ensure it's not set too high for your source, effectively muting a very low-level signal.
- Summen eller summen:
- Engager JORD lift switch. This is the most common solution for ground loop hum.
- Ensure all equipment in your signal chain is properly grounded.
- Try connecting all audio equipment to the same power outlet or power conditioner to minimize ground potential differences.
- Kontroller for defekte eller uskærmede kabler.
- Forvrænget lyd:
- Engager PAD switch (-20dB or -40dB) if your input source is too hot (high output).
- Reduce the output volume of your instrument or source.
- Check the input gain on your mixer/interface; it might be set too high.
