Opsætning og installation

This section outlines the general steps for installing the electric brake assembly. Refer to your trailer's specific service manual for detailed instructions and torque specifications.

  1. Forbered akslen: Ensure the axle spindle is clean and free of debris.
  2. Mount the Brake Assembly: Align the brake assembly with the mounting flange on the axle. Secure it using the appropriate bolts and nuts. Ensure the assembly is oriented correctly (left hand for the left side of the trailer).
  3. Tilslut ledninger: Connect the brake assembly's electrical wires to the trailer's brake wiring harness. Typically, one wire is for the brake signal (usually blue) and the other is for ground (usually white). Ensure connections are secure and protected from moisture.
  4. Install Wheel Bearings and Hub/Drum: Install the inner and outer wheel bearings, grease seal, and then slide the brake drum/hub assembly onto the spindle. Adjust the wheel bearing preload according to manufacturer specifications.
  5. Install Wheel and Tire: Mount the wheel and tire, and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's recommended specifications.
  6. Adjust Brakes: After installation, the brakes must be properly adjusted. This is typically done via an adjustment slot on the backing plate, using a brake spoon to expand the shoes until a slight drag is felt when rotating the wheel.
  7. Test funktionalitet: Before road use, test the brake functionality with a brake controller. Ensure both manual and automatic braking functions work correctly.

Operating Principles of Electric Brakes

Electric brakes operate by converting an electrical signal from the tow vehicle's brake controller into mechanical braking force. When the tow vehicle's brakes are applied, the brake controller sends a variable voltage signal to the trailer's brake magnets. The magnets, located within the brake assembly, are energized and adhere to the rotating brake drum. This magnetic force pulls the brake lever, which in turn forces the brake shoes against the inside of the brake drum, creating friction and slowing the trailer.

Proper adjustment of the brake controller and the brake shoes is crucial for effective and balanced braking across all trailer wheels.

Opretholdelse

Regular maintenance is vital for the longevity and safe operation of your brake assembly.

Fejlfinding

If you experience issues with your electric brake system, consider the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemMulig årsagLøsning
No Trailer BrakesNo power to brake controller; faulty brake controller; disconnected trailer wiring; corroded connections; worn magnets.Check tow vehicle fuse; test brake controller; inspect trailer plug and wiring; clean connections; inspect and replace magnets.
Weak BrakingBrakes out of adjustment; worn brake shoes; low voltage from controller; improper brake controller setting.Adjust brakes; replace worn shoes; check wiring for voltage drop; adjust brake controller gain.
Uneven BrakingOne or more brakes out of adjustment; contaminated brake shoes (oil/grease); faulty magnet on one wheel.Adjust all brakes evenly; inspect for contamination and clean/replace shoes; test individual magnets.
Brakes Dragging/OverheatingBrakes over-adjusted; seized wheel bearing; faulty brake controller sending constant signal.Loosen brake adjustment; inspect/replace wheel bearings; test brake controller output.
