1. Introduktion
The Behringer SD8 is a compact and versatile I/O stage box designed to expand the input and output capabilities of your digital mixing console. Featuring 8 Midas-designed, fully programmable microphone preamps and 8 analog, servo-balanced XLR outputs, the SD8 delivers audiophile sound quality for live sound and studio applications. Its AES50 networking capability, powered by KLARK TEKNIK's SuperMAC technology, ensures ultra-low jitter and latency, providing reliable digital audio transmission. Additionally, the integrated ULTRANET distribution hub allows for direct connection of BEHRINGER P16-M personal monitoring mixers, streamlining stage opsætninger.
This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Behringer SD8 to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
2. Opsætning
2.1 Udpakning og inspektion
Carefully unpack the Behringer SD8 and inspect it for any signs of damage during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.
2.2 Physical Placement and Rack Mounting
The SD8 can be used as a standalone unit or rack-mounted. For rack mounting, attach the included rack ears to the sides of the unit using the provided screws. The unit occupies two rack spaces.

2.3 Strømtilslutning
Connect the supplied IEC power cable to the AC/POWER input on the rear of the SD8. The unit supports a wide voltage range (100-240V) and frequencies (50/60Hz), making it suitable for international use without a power converter. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting to a power source.

2.4 AES50 Network Connectivity
The SD8 connects to your digital mixer (e.g., Behringer X-series, Midas M-series, or Behringer Wing) via AES50 network ports. Use shielded CAT5e or CAT6 cable with EtherCON connectors for optimal performance and to prevent interference. Port A should always be connected to the primary clock source or mixer. Port B can be used to daisy-chain additional stage kasser.

2.5 ULTRANET Personal Monitoring Hub
The SD8 features two ULTRANET ports for connecting Behringer P16-M personal monitoring mixers. These ports provide both audio signal and power to the P16-M units, simplifying cabling on stage. Each port can power one P16-M station, or you can connect a Behringer Powerplay P16-D distribution unit to expand to multiple stations from a single port.

3. Betjening
3.1 Ind- og udgangsforbindelser
The SD8 provides 8 combo XLR/TRS inputs, allowing you to connect microphones (XLR) or line-level sources (1/4" TRS). Channels 7 and 8 are specially designed as Hi-Z inputs, enabling direct connection of high-impedance sources like instrument pickups (e.g., acoustic guitars) without the need for an external direct box. The 8 XLR outputs provide balanced analog signals to your main PA system or stage skærme.

3.2 AES50 Output Routing
A small switch located near the AES50 B port on the rear of the unit allows you to select which block of 8 AES50 outputs is delivered to the physical XLR outputs of the SD8. This is particularly useful when daisy-chaining multiple SD8 units, enabling you to assign different output blocks (e.g., 1-8, 9-16, 17-24) to each physical stage kasse.

3.3 Standalone Operation (with compatible units)
The SD8 can function as part of a standalone digital snake system without a dedicated mixer when paired with compatible Behringer S16 or Midas DL16 stage boxes. In such configurations, the preamps and phantom power can be controlled via MIDI, offering flexible control over the unit's features.
4. Vedligeholdelse
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Behringer SD8, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Rensning: Regularly wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation grilles on the unit are not obstructed to prevent overheating.
- Kabelstyring: Use proper cable management to prevent strain on connectors and cables. Avoid sharp bends or kinks in cables.
- Opbevaring: When not in use, store the SD8 in a cool, dry place, ideally in its original packaging or a protective case, to shield it from dust and physical damage.
5. Fejlfinding
If you encounter issues with your Behringer SD8, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Ingen strøm:
- Verify the power cable is securely connected to both the SD8 and a working power outlet.
- Kontroller tænd/sluk-knappen på enheden.
- Intet lydsignal:
- Ensure all audio cables (XLR, TRS) are correctly connected to the inputs and outputs.
- Check the AES50 network cable connection between the SD8 and your mixer. Ensure it is a shielded cable.
- Verify the AES50 output routing switch on the SD8 is set correctly for the desired channel block.
- Confirm that phantom power (if required for microphones) is enabled from your mixer for the respective channels.
- Intermittent Connection/Noise:
- Ensure all cables, especially AES50, are shielded and in good condition.
- Kontroller for løse forbindelser på alle punkter.
- Minimize cable runs and avoid running audio cables parallel to power cables.
