Opsætning og installation
The Pelican HDPE SLED HYFAX Runner Kit is designed for easy installation. Follow these steps to properly attach the runners to your Trek 60 sled. Ensure you have the necessary tools before beginning.
Nødvendige værktøjer:
- Drill with 3/32" and 3/16" drill bits
- Phillips head screwdriver (manual recommended to avoid overtightening)
- Heat gun or hair dryer (optional, for easier bending of runners in cold conditions)
- Målebånd eller lineal
- Tusch eller blyant
Installationstrin:
- Prepare the Sled: Turn your Pelican Trek 60 sled upside down on a stable, flat surface. Ensure the sled is clean and free of debris.
- Identificér monteringssteder: The Trek 60 sled has pre-molded dimples or grooves on its bottom surface that indicate where the runners should be placed and where screws should be inserted. Align each of the three runners with these designated areas.
- Position Runners: Place one runner along a designated groove on the sled's bottom. The red side of the runner should face the sled, and the white side should face outwards (towards the ground).
- Bor pilothuller: Starting from the front (curved end) of the sled, use a 3/32" drill bit to drill a pilot hole through the sled and into the runner at the first designated screw location.
- Secure First Screw: Insert one of the provided screws through the drilled hole from the inside of the sled and into the runner. Hand-tighten it with a Phillips head screwdriver. Do not overtighten at this stage.
- Form the Runner (if needed): If installing in cold conditions, the runners may be stiff. Gently heat the runner with a heat gun or hair dryer (on a low setting) as you gradually bend it to conform to the sled's contour. This step may require assistance to hold the runner in place.
- Drill and Secure Remaining Screws: Continue drilling pilot holes (3/32") and securing screws along the length of the runner, following the sled's pre-marked locations. Once all screws for one runner are in place, use a 3/16" drill bit to enlarge the holes in the sled itself (not the runners) to allow for slight expansion/contraction and prevent stress cracking. Then, fully tighten all screws by hand.
- Repeat for Remaining Runners: Follow steps 3-7 for the other two runners.
- Endelig kontrol: Ensure all runners are securely attached and all screws are hand-tightened.

Betjeningsvejledning
With the HDPE runners installed, your Pelican Trek 60 sled will experience improved glide and reduced wear. Here are some tips for optimal operation:
- Bugsering: The runners significantly reduce friction, making the sled easier to pull manually or with an ATV/snowmobile. This is particularly noticeable on compacted snow and ice.
- Terræn: While designed for snow and ice, the runners also provide protection when crossing short sections of gravel, dirt, or other abrasive surfaces. However, prolonged use on such surfaces will accelerate wear.
- Belastningsfordeling: Distribute the load evenly within the sled to maintain balance and prevent excessive stress on any single runner.
- Styretøj: The runners can improve tracking, especially in varying snow conditions. Be mindful of how the sled tracks behind your towing vehicle.

Opretholdelse
Regular maintenance of your HDPE runners will ensure their longevity and continued performance.
- Rensning: After each use, especially if used on abrasive surfaces, clean the runners to remove any dirt, grit, or ice buildup. A simple rinse with water is usually sufficient.
- Undersøg for slitage: Periodically inspect the runners for signs of wear. The unique red layer underneath the white surface acts as a visual indicator. When the red layer becomes visible, it signifies that the runners are nearing the end of their lifespan and should be replaced to prevent damage to the sled itself.
- Tjek hardware: Ensure all mounting screws remain tight. Re-tighten any loose screws by hand to prevent the runners from shifting or detaching.
- Opbevaring: Store the sled with runners in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
Fejlfinding
| Problem | Mulig årsag | Løsning |
|---|---|---|
| Runners feel stiff during installation. | Cold temperatures make HDPE less flexible. | Use a heat gun or hair dryer on a low setting to gently warm the runners, making them more pliable for bending. |
| Runners are loose or shifting. | Monteringsskruerne er ikke stramme nok. | Hand-tighten all mounting screws. Avoid overtightening with power tools, which can strip the plastic. |
| Red layer visible on runners. | Normal wear and tear; runners are worn down. | Replace the runners promptly to prevent damage to the sled's main body. |
| Sled is difficult to tow despite runners. | Excessive load, unsuitable terrain, or worn runners. | Reduce load, check runners for wear (replace if red layer is visible), or consider the terrain's suitability for sledding. |
