3.2 Power Supply for WS90

The WS90 sensor is primarily solar-powered via a built-in 6.5V/4mA solar panel. For night use or prolonged cloudy days, it uses 2 x AA 1.5V backup batteries (not included). Rechargeable Li-batteries are recommended.

An optional external power cord (sold separately) can be used for both heating and power supply. If using the external power cord, ensure the supply voltage is between 5V and 20V. Exceeding 20V can damage the WS90. A 12V power supply is recommended for efficient heating and longer cable runs.

3.3 GW2000 IoT Wi-Fi Gateway Setup

The GW2000 IoT Wi-Fi Gateway connects your WS90 sensor data to your home network and the internet. Power the GW2000 using the provided DC to USB power cable.

3.4 Bird Spike Installation

To prevent birds from interfering with the outdoor sensor, install the included bird spike. Follow these steps:

  1. Insert the stainless steel strap into the silicon strip. Ensure the protruding part of the stainless steel and silicon strip are on the same side.
  2. Bend the assembly into a circle. Ensure the pin holes are all facing up and leave some space before finishing the circle for the next operation.
  3. Set the circular bird spike on the rain gauge.
  4. Tighten with needle-nose pliers. Hold the needle-nose pliers and turn to tighten the stainless steel strap to cut off the excess length.
  5. Insert the stainless steel needle into the designated holes.

The GW2000 Gateway requires Wi-Fi configuration to connect to your network and upload data. There are three methods:

Method A: Via Embedded Web Page (Phone Connection)

5.2 Snowpack Management

During snowy conditions, snow accumulation can affect sensor accuracy:

5.4 Haptic Rainfall Sensor Calibration

The WS90's haptic rain sensor can be calibrated for improved accuracy. This process requires a reference rain gauge (e.g., Ecowitt WH40) that can record rainfall values and rain rates.
