To access the modem settings, open a web browser and type http://192.168.1.254. The default username and password are often 'admin' and 'admin', or they can be found on the sticker on the back of the modem.
A solid green light generally indicates the modem is connected to the internet. A solid red light means it is not connected. A flashing blue light indicates a DSL connection is being established.
