BEHRINGER ULTRALINK MS8000 User Manual

8-Input 16-Output Microphone Splitter

1. Introduktion

The BEHRINGER ULTRALINK MS8000 is a high-quality, ultra-low noise 8-input, 16-output microphone splitter designed for professional audio applications. It allows you to send a single microphone signal to multiple destinations, such as a front-of-house mixer, a monitor mixer, and a recording device, without signal degradation. Each channel provides a direct output and a link output, along with essential features like ground lift switches and phantom power pass-through.

2. Funktioner

  • Ultra-low noise, 8-input / 16-output microphone splitter.
  • Each channel features a direct output and a link output.
  • Equipped with individual output ground lift switches per channel.
  • Flexible input link switch.
  • LINK OUT side can supply phantom power pass-through.

3. Opsætning

Before connecting the MS8000, ensure all audio equipment is powered off to prevent damage from sudden signal surges.

  1. XLR Inputs (IN 1-8): Connect your microphones or other line-level sources to these 8 XLR input jacks. Each input is balanced.
  2. LINK OUT (1-8): These XLR outputs provide a direct, un-split signal from the corresponding input. They are designed to pass phantom power from a connected mixer to the microphone. Use these to connect to your primary mixer or recording interface.
  3. LIFT/GND Switches: These switches allow you to disconnect the ground connection for the corresponding LINK OUT. This can help eliminate hum or buzz caused by ground loops.
  4. PUSH Buttons: These buttons are part of the input linking feature.

Figur 3.2: Bagpanel overview

  1. DIRECT OUT (0-7): These XLR outputs provide the primary split signal for each input channel. Connect these to your secondary mixers, monitor systems, or recording devices.
  2. LINK OUT (0-7): These XLR outputs are duplicates of the front panel LINK OUTs, providing an additional connection point for the direct, un-split signal.

3.3 Rackmontering

The MS8000 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit when installing it in a rack.

4. Betjeningsvejledning

4.1 Grundlæggende betjening

Once your microphones are connected to the inputs and your mixers/recorders are connected to the DIRECT OUT and LINK OUTs, the MS8000 operates passively. No power supply is required for its basic splitting function.

4.2 Ground Lift Switches

If you experience hum or buzz in your audio signal, especially when connecting to multiple devices, try engaging the LIFT/GND switch for the affected channel. This disconnects the ground connection, which can break ground loops. Experiment with the switch in both positions to find the quietest setting.

4.3 Phantom Power Pass-Through

The LINK OUTs (both front and rear) are designed to pass phantom power from a connected mixer to the microphone. If you are using condenser microphones that require phantom power, ensure that the mixer connected to the LINK OUT provides 48V phantom power. The DIRECT OUTs do not pass phantom power, ensuring isolation for other connected devices.

4.4 Input Linking

The MS8000 features flexible input linking. Refer to the detailed diagram below for understanding the signal flow and linking options.

The 'PUSH' buttons on the front panel allow for linking inputs. For example, pressing the 'PUSH' button for IN 2 might link it to IN 1, allowing a single source to feed multiple channels on the splitter. Consult the specific wiring diagram or block diagram in the full product manual for advanced linking configurations.

5. Vedligeholdelse

The BEHRINGER ULTRALINK MS8000 requires minimal maintenance. Keep the unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the unit is not exposed to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.

6. Fejlfinding

6.1 Intet signaludgang

  • Check all XLR cable connections. Ensure they are securely plugged into the correct inputs and outputs.
  • Verify that the microphone or source connected to the input is functioning correctly.
  • Ensure the receiving device (mixer, recorder) is powered on and its input gain is set appropriately.

6.2 Hum or Buzz in Audio

  • Engage or disengage the LIFT/GND switch for the affected channel. This is the most common solution for ground loop hum.
  • Ensure all audio cables are balanced XLR cables.
  • Kontroller for defekte kabler eller forbindelser.

6.3 Condenser Microphone Not Working (No Phantom Power)

  • Ensure your condenser microphone is connected to a LINK OUT, not a DIRECT OUT, as only LINK OUTs pass phantom power.
  • Verify that the mixer or device connected to the LINK OUT has phantom power enabled and is supplying 48V.
  • Check the microphone itself to ensure it is functioning correctly.
