3. General Testing Principles
For accurate results, follow these general steps for all tests:
- Fill Comparator Cell: Fill the comparator cell or test tube with a water sample from your pool, hot tub, or spa to the indicated mark.
- Add Reagent Drops: Add the specified number of reagent drops according to the test kit instructions.
- Cap and Mix: Cap the test tube and invert to thoroughly mix the reagents and water sample.
- Compare Color: Compare the resulting water color to the standards on the comparator block or count drops until a color change occurs, as instructed for each specific test.

4. Testing Procedures
4.1. Free & Combined Chlorine Test (FAS-DPD)
This test measures the amount of free chlorine available to sanitize your water and combined chlorine, which indicates chloramines.
- Rinse and fill the large comparator tube to the 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
- Add 1 scoop of DPD Powder R-0870. Cap and mix. The sample will turn pink if free chlorine is present.
- Add FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent R-0871 dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until the color changes from pink to colorless.
- Multiply drops in Step 3 by 0.2 (for 25 mL sample) or 0.5 (for 10 mL sample) to record as parts per million (ppm) free chlorine.
- Add 5 drops of DPD #3 R-0003. Cap and mix. If combined chlorine is present, the sample will turn pink.
- Add FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent R-0871 dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from pink to colorless.
- Multiply drops in Step 6 by 0.2 (for 25 mL sample) or 0.5 (for 10 mL sample) to record as ppm combined chlorine.
4.2. pH-test
The pH test measures the acidity or alkalinity of your pool water, crucial for swimmer comfort and equipment protection.
- Rinse and fill the large comparator tube to the 44 mL mark with water to be tested.
- Add 5 drops of pH Indicator Solution R-0004. Cap and mix.
- Sammenlign sample color with the color standards on the comparator block to determine the pH level.
- If pH is outside the ideal range (7.4-7.6), use Acid Demand Reagent R-0005 or Base Demand Reagent R-0006 to determine adjustment needs.
4.3. Test af total alkalinitet
This test measures the water's ability to resist changes in pH, preventing sudden shifts in water balance.
- Rinse and fill the large comparator tube to the 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
- Add 2 drops of Thiosulfate R-0007. Cap and mix.
- Add 5 drops of Total Alkalinity Indicator R-0008. Cap and mix. The sample will turn green.
- Add Sulfuric Acid R-0009 dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until the color changes from green to red.
- Multiply drops in Step 4 by 10 to record as ppm total alkalinity.
- If high total alkalinity is anticipated, use a 10 mL sample and multiply drops by 25.
4.4. Calcium Hardness Test
This test measures the amount of dissolved calcium in your water, which helps prevent corrosion or scaling.
- Rinse and fill the large comparator tube to the 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
- Add 20 drops of Calcium Buffer R-0010. Cap and mix.
- Add 5 drops of Calcium Indicator Liquid R-0011L. Cap and mix. The sample will turn red if calcium hardness is present.
- Add Hardness Reagent R-0012 dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until the color changes from red to blue.
- Multiply drops in Step 4 by 10 to record as ppm calcium hardness.
- If high calcium hardness is anticipated, use a 10 mL sample and multiply drops by 25.
4.5. Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Test
The CYA test measures stabilizer levels, which protect chlorine from degradation by sunlight.
- Rinse and fill the 10 mL mark on the small comparator tube with water to be tested.
- Add Cyanuric Acid Reagent R-0013 to the 14 mL mark. Cap and mix for 30 seconds.
- Slowly transfer the cloudy mixture into the small comparator tube until the black dot on the bottom of the tube disappears when viewed fra toppen.
- Read the mark on the side of the tube where the black dot disappeared. Record reading as ppm cyanuric acid.
5. Interpreting Results & Adjustments
Refer to the included User Guide and Watergram® Water Balance Calculator for ideal ranges for each parameter and recommended chemical adjustments based on your test results. The Watergram helps you calculate precise dosages for balancing your pool water.

6. Pleje og opbevaring
- Store your test kit in a cool, dark place to prolong the life of reagents.
- Replace reagents annually or as needed, especially those used frequently.
- Rinse test tubes thoroughly before and after each test.
- Do not dispose of solutions in your pool or spa.
- Keep bottles tightly capped when not in use.
7. Fejlfinding
If you encounter inconsistent or unexpected results, consider the following:
- Reagensudløb: Ensure all reagents are within their expiration dates. Expired reagents can lead to inaccurate readings.
- Sample Contamination: Always use clean test tubes and fresh water samples. Avoid touching the inside of test tubes or reagent bottle tips.
- Korrekt teknik: Follow the drop-counting and mixing instructions precisely. Inaccurate drop size or insufficient mixing can affect results.
- Miljøfaktorer: Strong sunlight can affect color comparisons. Perform tests in shaded areas if possible.
